Practitioner Education

Practitioner Education

BSK Consulting, L.L.C. specializes in the development and delivery of short practitioner education courses that are customized to meet client needs. Courses are developed by BSK Consulting, L.L.C.’s Founder & CEO, Dr. Barnett S. Koven, who possess years of experience developing and delivering both university courses and practitioner education for the U.S. Government. All content is developed and delivered according to best practices from Malcolm Knowles’ principles of adult learning. Specifically, BSK Consulting, L.L.C. focuses on Knowles’ ideas that adults need to know the reason behind why they are learning something; adults are most interested in learning subjects with immediate relevance to their work and/or personal lives; and, adult learning is problem-centered rather than content-centered (Knowles, 1970). BSK Consulting, L.L.C. addresses these principles by focusing on the specific needs of the learners, creating an interactive classroom setting, and emphasizing real-world experiences and applications related to the course content. BSK Consulting, L.L.C. actively works to create a learning environment that fosters meaningful exchanges of ideas in which all viewpoints are respected.

To establish a participatory learning environment, BSK Consulting, L.L.C. uses instructional strategies such as case study presentations or incident processing; brainstorming; role playing; facilitated discussion; teach-back opportunities; and table-top simulation exercises. Approaches like these provide an active-learning component that is critical to successfully applying new skill-sets and knowledge bases.

BSK Consulting, L.L.C.’s Founder & CEO maintains active appointments at the University of Maryland, the George Washington University, Joint Special Operations University, the U.S. Air Force Special Operations School, and West Point. In addition, he regularly instructs practitioner audiences at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Diplomatic Security Service.
This was quite possibly the best LEO training I've had in my 15 year career. Every HSI agent should have this regardless of if they plan to go overseas.”

I could hear more. I hope to carry this knowledge further and will definitely recommend this course of study to those back in my home office.”
